You're forgetting that the house was stolen.

I don't agree with all that Israel does, but they have a right to exist. By the same token, I feel that part of North America should belong to Native Americans. We should give the least populated or second least populated state back to them and let them have their own country free from US supervision.

I agree. Watching this interview made me feel especially bad for Mark:

That's rough. The Han Solo thing was a mistake on the part of the studio. The part about Luke and Leia never getting screentime again was life getting in the way of art. :(

Thank you for sharing.

Can we start saying Twenty-Twenty instead of saying Two-Thousand-Twenty?

Yes, we were hyped for the two-thousands, that bold new millennium of the future, but that was 20 years ago. It's type to get back to the more efficient way of listing things, saying twenty instead of the mouthy two-thousand.

Let the two-thousands rest in peace and let the twenties begin.

Adult

I get that the character is inspired by Peter Pan, but I was never a fan of the child heroes trope. Even as a child, I knew that adults were mentally and physically more developed; more dexterous. A 12 year old with years of training with a sword could be easily bested by an able-bodied adult who had never picked up a sword before.

I guess Link is a magical being, or member of a fantasy race, rather than a human child. He's not limited the way a kid from our world would be. But I'd still prefer him in the 17 to 20 year old age range. Ocarina of Time was a huge leap forward for the series and Nintendo of Japan has fought to regress the series as much as possible.

Real deal, it was a tremendous fucking mistake not to give Luke and Han screentime together. Even if it was a pre-title sequence set a few years before the start of the movie, they should have had time together.

Oh, but that would have meant Luke would have had to say something and that would have spoiled the whole ambience of "Holy shit, it's Luke Skywalker!" at the end of the movie. Yeah, that camera rotation was totally worth pissing away a chance at a reunion after three decades.

Good
  • Dr. Grant would have a beard like he did in the novel
  • the cast would be more inclusive

Bad
  • all of the dinosaurs would need new sound effects (no more sea turtle mating call for velociraptor)
  • Dr. Sattler and Robert Muldoon would be dinosaur-kicking badasses while everyone stood around talking
  • action would replace characterization and storytelling

Ugly
  • tyrannosaurus would have a feathered crest
  • velociraptor would be a bird

It would also mean Universal's theme parks would have to redesign all of their dinosaurs to match the current scientific view on things. That alone would be pretty costly.

Jurassic World definitely feels like it has run its course, but they really can't stop everything and reboot the franchise after the next film like they probably should.

This was a movie where the characters acted like they were two seconds away from an orgy at any given time.

My favorite part of Vietnam is the way the history books read something to the effect of, "While the war was initially popular, the American public soon turned against it." What that translates to is that it was a just war when a Democrat was in charge and an act of American imperialism once Nixon took office.

The US was experiencing war fatigue -- having gone through World War II in the 1940s and the Korean War in the 1950s -- and rightfully didn't feel motivated to get involved in a battle which was basically meant as an exhibition match to show off to Russia what we were capable of. "We'll kick their Commie asses just like we'd kick yours."

When the US pulled out, genocide was committed against the Hmong people. For that alone, it would have been better if the US had prevailed. Crazy conservative John Wayne was right when he said that the US was once again fighting to prevent genocide. But when the war ended, no mention was made of the plight of Hmong people and the antiwar crowd celebrated a moral victory over the US.

I'd like to believe that most are unaware of the genocide. But when it's brought up, the blame is curiously placed on the US for covering it up rather than on the Vietnamese government for committing it. I suppose they'd find a way to spin the story and say that it never would have happened if the US had never chosen to fight. There's always a nonviolent solution and there's always a way to put the American government at fault for everything.

James Bond never had the "happily ever after" ending. The one movie to feature Bond's wife also ended with her death.

Bond is an interesting subject though as far as canon is concerned. We see him grow older, then spontaneously become young again. The series doesn't officially reboot until Casino Royale. He just has a sliding time line like a longstanding comic book character.

The fate of Bond's wife Tracy was used as the linking device to show that Connery, Lazenby, and Moore were all the same Bond. After that, Bond movies made vague statements about Bond failing to protect a loved one in the past.

Also, Blofeld made one final appearance after EON had lost the rights to the character -- leading to debates among fans of the series over whether or not that unnamed villain should count as Blofeld or be treated as some random guy seeking revenge against Bond over something.

Even though I know that Dr. No to Die Another Day is one continuity, I can't help but view the Dalton/Brosnan Bond as a soft reboot of the series and its own continuity. And the unnamed villain from For Your Eyes Only is totally Blofeld.

Even without that, there are so many things that could mark stopping points for people who had watched the series from the beginning. Bond goes to space? Pass. Bond fights a voodoo priest who is actually a living voodoo god? Pass. Bond makes silly quips every time he kills a bad guy? Pass.

Bond is some serious food for thought on the nature of what's canon and how far you follow a series.

It bugs me when people act like the Dark Knight trilogy is a duology.

Yes, Batman totally just gave up and let the bad guy win at the end of The Dark Knight. If there's one thing Batman is known for, it's giving up the battle after he's won it. But, hey, at least it wouldn't put us through the happy ending of the third film which many swear is a delusion.

I get that The Dark Knight Rises had its problems, but in no way, shape, or form was The Dark Knight the conclusion to anything. That is a cliffhanger ending if ever there was one.

I feel like a sequel can be ignored if you haven't watched it. Once you let it in, it's difficult to say that A and B happened, but not C.

Take a movie which ends in a marriage. The female lead doesn't return for the sequel, so the male lead's character is made a widower. If you never see the sequel, the original movie is a complete story with a happily ever after ending with the original love interest. But if you watch the sequel, it's difficult to tell yourself that the first bride never died and the new love interest is the love interest going forward. You watched that unfold.

Or maybe that's just a hangup that I have. Maybe others find it easier to watch a movie with a decision they disagree with and tell themselves, "That didn't happen."

Really, it's a catch-22.

If you don't release a statement, you condone or enable such actions by way of failure to publicly denounce such actions. If you do release a statement, you are taking responsibility for the actions of others. Which in turn means that it's your fault when someone else of the same demographic does something wrong.

The very nature of prejudice is to seek faults within the community as a whole and to make the worst the representatives of the whole.
